795 people have been infected with Ebola, 181 have died and 40 have recovered from Ebola.
The Ministry of Health in the Democratic Republic of Congo announced that the number of confirmed cases of Ebola virus disease Bundibugyo as of June 13, 2026 has reached 795 .Of these, 181 have died.
The Ministry explained that on June 13, 72 new cases of the disease were detected. Of these, 29 died that day. The DRC government says that these figures are high due to efforts to track the infection and test more people.
Among the new cases, 56 are from Ituri Province, in areas including Mongbwalu, Bunia Town, Rwampara and Nyankunde. Another 16 are from North Kivu, in areas including Butembo and Katwa.
As of June 13, 40 people had recovered from the disease overall. This includes five new cases reported in Rwampara, Mongbwalu and Mambasa, all in Ituri Province. These recovered after receiving early medical attention.
There is currently no cure or vaccine for the Ebola virus in Bundibugyo. However, research suggests that its symptoms are treatable and curable. This is especially possible if the patient seeks treatment early and attends health facilities.
The Ebola outbreak in Bundibugyo is a serious viral disease that is transmitted through bodily fluids. Health authorities in the DRC are working with the World Health Organization (WHO) to develop strategies to prevent the spread of the disease.
These measures include contact tracing, quarantine of patients, and education of the public on how to protect themselves. The government is also asking international partners for assistance in providing medical equipment and health workers to quickly stop the outbreak.
