In English
Angola has sent troops to Tanganyika province, at Kalemie airport, to help DRC forces fight the AFC/M23 coalition and the MRDP-Twirwaneho armed group. 100 soldiers from Angola have continued to the town of Baraka and other parts of Fizi territory.
Attacks are being carried out against AFC/M23 and MRDP-Twirwaneho in the highlands of Fizi, using Angolan Sukhoi-30 and Sukhoi-25 fighter jets. The DRC government forces currently consist of thousands of soldiers, including Angolans, DRC, Burundians, FDLR, Imbonerakure youth, Wazalendo groups, and mercenaries from South American countries and Algeria.
Angola's role in the war in the DRC shows that recent announcements about inter-Congolese talks were intended to mislead the international community, while supporting the stubbornness of President Félix Tshisekedi, who is eager to reclaim all areas controlled by the AFC/M23.
From February 19 to 21, representatives from Burundi and the DRC met for a three-day security summit at the Kiriri Garden Hotel in Bujumbura. It was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Burundian Army, Gen Prime Niyongabo, his Kinshasa counterpart, Gen Jules Banza Mwilambwe, and the DRC Minister of Defense, Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita.
The meeting discussed the weekly attacks by all parties on AFC/M23 positions in parts of the Ruzizi Valley in Uvira territory, using ground and air forces, so that the DRC government forces could respond.
Angola clashed with the DRC military in the DRC war, after the country's President, João Lourenço, resigned from the leadership of the African Union (AU), took off his mantle of mediation, and openly entered the war in the DRC.
The current war in the DRC is supported by Rwanda, but Angola has chosen to include it in the war against the AFC/M23 coalition and the MRDP-Twirwaneho armed group.
M23 said it would not return to the talks in Luanda, yet the declarations of love stand, led by Angola, choosing to mislead the international community.
