Different research on gender-based violence shows that most vulnerable children are being abused, including being infected with diseases, and over 70% of them drop out of school. The research was conducted in Bugesera and Kicukiro districts in 2023 by Young Women Christian Association Rwanda. It shows that children are sexually abused on their way to school, back home, or while at school.

The research surveyed 661 students from 10 secondary schools in Bugesera and 12 in Kicukiro, and 335 students from universities and colleges. When asked if they had seen boys sexually abusing girls, 43.1% of secondary school students said yes.
Overall, the research found that:
- 53.4% saw boys forcing girls into sex
- 82.7% saw boys insulting girls who refused their advances
- 70.9% saw boys beating girls who refused friendship
- 87% said boys use seductive language when girls refuse sex
- 69.6% said boys beat girls who refuse sex
- 64.4% said boys use words to
humiliate girls during relationshipsIn secondary schools, 79.8% of students reported that teachers ask girls to engage in sexual intercourse. More than 87.4% stated that teachers entice students with promises of help, while 88% indicated that teachers promise them good grades with the intent of committing abuse.
Additionally, 76.2% confirmed that teachers intimidate students when they refuse to engage in sexual activities, while 67% asserted that a girl who rejects a teacherβs advances is often insulted.
The research shows that 95.2% of secondary school students do not agree to engage in sexual relations with teachers, while 4.8% confirmed that they do accept it.

The report shows that 19.7% of young girls who became pregnant were assaulted by their neighbors; 52 girls, or 7.5%, were assaulted by people they did not know; 20 girls, or 2.9%, were assaulted by people in their families; while 7 girls, or 1%, were assaulted by their employers. The majority of the girls who were sexually assaulted and became pregnant have an average age of under 24.
The commission found that among those surveyed, 44% of the pregnant girls were still attending primary school; 29% were in secondary school; 21% had dropped out of school; and 6% had never started school.
It was observed that sexual violence has detrimental effects on the right to education, as 78% of pregnant girls drop out of school after becoming pregnant and do not return; 17% leave school for a short time but return after giving birth; while only 5% manage to continue their education throughout their pregnancy.
Judicial statistics for 2024/2025 indicate that 6,124 cases of child sexual abuse were prosecuted.
The Demographic and Health Survey in Rwanda (DHS7) revealed that in 2005, the percentage of pregnant girls was 4%, in 2010 it rose to 6%, in 2015 it reached 7%, and by 2020 it dropped to 5%, with projections indicating it might reach 8% by 2025.

- 82.7% wameona wavulana kuwashutumu wasichana wanaokataa maendeleo yao
- 70.9% wameona wavulana kuwapiga wasichana wanaokataa urafiki
- 87% wamesema wavulana hutumia lugha za kuvutia wasichana wanapokataa kufanya mapenzi
- 69.6% wamesema wavulana huwapiga wasichana wanaokataa kufanya mapenzi
