The 7th cohort of U.S. Congressional staff visited Rwanda from January 24 to January 29, 2026, as part of the Rwanda Visit Program. This program aims to provide insights into Rwanda's socio-economic transformation and its journey of recovery following the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
During their visit, the Congressional staff were welcomed by Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe. Discussions centered on strengthening the partnership between Rwanda and the United States, as well as sharing perspectives on Rwanda's development progress, governance priorities, and long-term efforts in nation-building after the genocide.
The Rwanda Visit Program is designed to give U.S. Congressional staff first-hand experience of the political and socio-economic changes in Rwanda, with a special emphasis on post-genocide reconstruction, reconciliation, and inclusive development. Through a series of structured discussions and field visits, participants gained valuable insights into Rwanda’s policy frameworks and its development model.
