North Korea has expressed its satisfaction with the appointment of Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, following the death of his father, Ayotallah Ali Khamenei, who previously held the position. It said it respects the right and determination of the Iranian people to choose their own leader.
North Korea's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Choe Son-hui, on March 11, 2026, welcomed the appointment of the leader and strongly condemned the attacks carried out by the United States and Israel on Iran. He said that the attack on Iran was illegal and undermined regional and international peace and security.
Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been elected Supreme Leader of Iran, succeeding his father, who was killed in a US-Israeli airstrike on February 28, 2026. Mojtaba, 56, is Khamenei's second son and one of the most respected figures in Iran.
North Korea says the US and Israeli aggression is illegal and aims to destroy the foundation of regional peace and security and increase international tension and instability.
