Manchester City returns to top of Premier League – Rayon Sports and Gorilla FC draw, APR makes a strong start in CAVB
Manchester City have reclaimed the top spot in the English Premier League after a nine-month absence, overtaking Arsenal FC. The team achieved this after beating Burnley 1-0 thanks to an Erling Haaland goal on Wednesday night. The victory moved City to the top of the table with 70 points, level with Arsenal FC but ahead on goal difference.
It is a major step for Manchester City as they bid to win a fourth successive Premier League title. Under Pep Guardiola, City have become accustomed to being at the top of the table at the end of the season, thanks to their experience of surviving tough situations. Erling Haaland also remains one of the players to watch, having scored more than 25 goals this season.
For Arsenal FC, this is a sign that the competition is not easy. The London club had been at the top for nine months, but a disappointing last two games have seen them lose their top spot. For Burnley, the defeat means they will be relegated to the Second Division next season after a difficult season.

In Rwanda, Rayon Sports drew 1-1 with Gorilla FC in the first leg of the Peace Cup at the Kigali Pele Stadium on Wednesday evening, April 22, 2026. Gorilla FC's goal was scored by Kanamugire Roger, while Rayon Sports' goal was scored by Ndayishimiye Richard. The return leg is scheduled for next week.
President Kagame attended the first match of the 2026 CAVB Men’s Club Championship, which brings together the top teams in the African continent in volleyball. The opening match of the tournament, which took place at the BK Arena, ended with APR VC of Rwanda defeating Black Rhinos VC of Zimbabwe 3-0 [25-18, 25-10, 25-11].
The tournament, which is being held in Kigali, brings together teams from various African countries, and aims to find a team that will represent the continent in the World Volleyball Team Championship. APR VC is in the running to win the trophy after performing well in the national competition this year.
As things stand, the English Premier League is coming to an end but the competition is fierce between Manchester City and Arsenal FC. The two meet again as they did last season in 2024-2025, when City won the title in the last minute. Football fans are waiting to see if Arsenal can hold their own or if City will once again show their experience in winning the title.
