US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said the war they are facing with Iran is just beginning, as they will be deploying more fighter jets and bombers to the Middle East and using more bombs to target the country. In a press conference, Hegseth said that in cooperation with Israel, their military operations against Iran are just beginning and they are increasing the pace and do not expect to slow down.
"We are accelerating, not slowing down. More bombs and more fighters have arrived today, and the United States will use more bombs," Hegseth said, amid growing concerns about the civilian toll from the war, which has killed 1,045 people in Iran in just five days.
Legal experts continue to condemn the war, saying it violates the United Nations Charter and that the countries have violated international law. Aid groups have expressed concern about its impact on civilians in the Middle East.
The Secretary-General of the Norwegian International Relief Organization, Jan Egeland, said that as the war intensifies, it is putting civilians and infrastructure at risk. Iranian attacks have already targeted US bases in Arab countries and infrastructure, including oil and gas facilities.
Iran's attacks have targeted countries in the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Iraq. The United States has said it will use "unlimited" bombs to target Iran, while Iran has said it is ready for war if the United States attempts military action.
US President Donald Trump has said he will not stop until his country is no longer a global superpower and a threat, and will do whatever it takes to make it stronger. Iran has said it is ready to launch a full-scale attack on US military bases and retaliate against Israel if Trump provokes it.
