Police have arrested 11 people suspected of theft in Nyabugogo area. They were arrested in Ubucuruzi, Intiganda, and Indamutsa Villages, in Nyarugenge District, Muhima Sector.
Thieves were caught selling goods in a well-known market such as Mutangana, stealing some of their goods and robbing customers who came to shop. They were caught at night, and robbed of their belongings, especially their phones.
Kigali City Police Spokesperson, CIP Gahonzire Wellars, said that the police will not stop arresting thieves who steal citizens' property. He said: "We remind citizens to continue to work closely with security agencies, especially by providing information on those they know to be thieves and have them arrested."
All those arrested are being held at Muhima Police Station, and operations to arrest other accomplices are ongoing. Police are also ensuring complete security for all people heading to the Nyabugogo area.
CIP Gahonzire warned people who believe they will make a living by stealing people's property to stop. He said: "Businessmen are reminded to avoid giving opportunity to thieves, especially those who call themselves 'Abataka' who steal customers who go to Mutangana market"
Police say that thieves play a role in slowing down development and disrupting the well-being of the population. Citizens are reminded to continue to play a role in exposing these thieves by providing timely information.
There is complete security in the Nyabugogo area, both for cyclists and for traders who operate various businesses there.
