President Kagame wished women a happy International Women's Day, noting that every day is a day to celebrate the important role women continue to play in Rwanda's development. He said, "Your perseverance, expertise and leadership continue to reinforce the obvious truth: A country can only progress meaningfully when inclusiveness and equality are promoted in all aspects."
Mrs. Jeannette Kagame dedicated this day to women, wishing them a happy day through X, and reminding them not to forget to take special care of their health. She wrote: “Today we celebrate women, I ask you to re-examine your emotions, values, and behavior, learn to take care of yourself, all for the sake of building yourself!”
President Kagame stressed that apart from being the backbone of the country's development, women have played a role in the struggle for Rwanda's liberation. He said, "Men, when you look at us, we are just boasting, but if you don't have a woman to help you and build you up, it becomes difficult."
International Women's Day is celebrated all over the world, and Rwanda joins the world in celebrating this day. The celebration of International Women's Day began in 1908, when 15,000 women held a protest in New York, USA.
Rwanda is the country with the highest number of women in Parliament, rising from 12% in 1996 to 63.75% in 2026, and in all other spheres, women have had a significant say.
President Kagame said, "Men, when you look at us here, we are just boasting, but if you don't have a wife to help you build it up, it becomes difficult."
Mrs. Jeannette Kagame said that women have a special place in the family, and that they play an equal role in the development of Rwanda.
