Here is what President Kagame said at a conference held in Chantilly, France: Africa wants to take care of itself and work with others.

President Kagame visited France in the city of Chantilly where he attended the World Policy Conference (WPC), which discussed a sustainable and inclusive way of life for all countries in the world.*

President Paul Kagame said that Africa's desire is simple: that Africans should take care of themselves and work productively with other countries, instead of remaining isolated and divided. He made this statement at the 18th World Policy Conference (WPC), to be held in Chantilly, France on April 24, 2026.

In his talks with Thierry de Montbrial, Director of the WPC and the French Institute for International Relations Ifri, Kagame said that remaining isolated at a time when the world is divided does not provide a solution but rather encourages confrontation and division. He called for Africa to work with others in a way that helps all sides to progress.

Kagame emphasized that development should be seen as a shared benefit, not a product of individual creation. He said that if people accept their differences but continue to progress together, it would help build a better and more peaceful world.

The WPC was established in 2008 to promote good global governance, discuss solutions to regional and international challenges, and build trust and tolerance among nations. The forum brings together leaders from all walks of life to discuss a more open and respectful relationship.

The summit is expected to bring together leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Arab League Executive Secretary Nabil Fahmy, TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné and others involved in international politics and economics.
