Kenya's Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen said 355 people have been arrested following protests across the country on Thursday. The protests were held to commemorate those killed in the Gen-Z protests of 2024.

In a statement issued after the protests, Murkomen said that overall the country was characterized by security and calm. He said there were no major acts of looting, fighting, or serious injuries.
He thanked Kenyans for continuing their daily activities and maintaining peace. He said they had heeded the government's call to refrain from activities that could disrupt security.
Murkomen said that as of the time of the report, 355 people had been arrested. He said that number could increase as investigations are ongoing.
Those arrested are expected to be brought to justice for various crimes, including robbery with violence, damage to property, obstructing traffic and attempted theft.
He also announced that the Deputy Mayor of Kariti Area in Murang'a District, Anthony Kadungu, was injured. He was attacked by a group of people who were trying to block a road in the area.
The Gen-Z protests of 2024 were a protest against the government's budget and the high cost of living. It killed many people and forced the government to reverse tax increases. The commemoration of the day brought many people out into the streets.
In conclusion, Murkomen thanked the security forces for the dedication and professionalism they demonstrated in maintaining security that day. He said they resolved the issues that arose quickly and without causing inconvenience to the majority of the population.
