The US has already lost more than 40 warplanes and other expensive assets.
A new report released by the US shows the US military losses in the Iran war, with more than 40 warplanes damaged or destroyed. The report was released to Congress as part of a broader effort to explain the effects of the long-running conflict.
The report, prepared by the Congressional Research Service (CRS), is based on information provided by the Pentagon, the US military's headquarters, the US Central Command (CENTCOM), and information published by reliable media outlets. This makes the report a reliable source of information on the losses that the US has suffered.
The aircraft lost included a variety of types, including fighter jets, unmanned drones, military helicopters, and special operations aircraft. The losses underscore the seriousness of the fighting and the extent to which the Iranian military has been able to withstand American technology.
The report says that the US attack, dubbed βOperation Epic Fury,β resulted in the downing of 42 military aircraft. These included F-15 and F-35 Lightning fighter jets, HH-60W Jolly Green II rescue helicopters, and other aircraft used for various military missions.
The authors of the report explained that this list is subject to change as the fighting continues, and as new damage may be discovered during the assessment. This means that the number of damaged aircraft could increase.
In addition, the report echoes what Jules W. Hurst III, the Pentagon chief, told Congress on the 12th of this month. He said that the US has already spent more than $29 billion on the Iran war, mostly on repairing damaged aircraft and other military equipment.
Among the lost aircraft, the report focused on the F-15E Strike Eagle. These aircraft are known for their long-range capability and heavy bomb load, but some of them were destroyed in Kuwaiti airspace and other areas where hostilities broke out.
The report says that at least four F-15E Strike Eagles have already been lost. This is a sign that the Iran war has had a serious impact on the US military, and could change Washington's decisions in a way that maintains its role in the region.
