US officials have unveiled the details of a 14-point agreement the US has reached with Iran to end a three-and-a-half-month-long war in the Middle East.
Iran is expected to benefit greatly from these agreements if they comply. Many of them include investments to rebuild this war-torn country.
While attending the G7 summit in France, President Donald Trump said the agreement could be signed soon. It is expected to be signed on June 19, 2026, in Switzerland.
The agreement includes a ceasefire in Iran and its proxies, such as in Lebanon, where Israel continues to support Hezbollah. It also includes a commitment by both countries to respect each other's sovereignty and not interfere in each other's affairs.
The United States and Iran have agreed to a 60-day period for negotiations on a mutually acceptable deal. This period can be extended if both sides agree. This period will begin when the preliminary agreement is signed on June 19, 2026.
The two sides agreed that the United States should immediately end its actions to block oil shipments to and from Iranian ports. Tehran should also open the Strait of Hormuz, which continues to threaten the global economy as it carries 20% of the world's oil.
The United States and its partners will develop an investment package that will help Iran rebuild. It is estimated that this investment will amount to $300 billion, which will be invested in various sectors in Iran. This investment will be private.
The United States and Iran have agreed to lift economic sanctions on Iran. They will also lift UN Security Council sanctions on the country. Iran has been asked to refrain from developing nuclear weapons. The two sides have agreed to discuss Iran's use of uranium enrichment. Other provisions include the release of Iranian assets seized by various countries due to sanctions, although this has not yet been finalized. There are also provisions on how the agreement will be implemented.
