French President Emmanuel Macronutrients and his wife Brigitte Macron hosted Rwandan President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame at the Palais de l'Élysée on Tuesday evening, June 2, 2026.
Before the dinner, the two heads of state participated in the official inauguration of the 1994 Genocide Memorial in Paris. The memorial is intended to serve as a place of remembrance and understanding of the history of the Genocide.
In a message released by the Rwandan Presidential Office, Village Urugwiro, President Kagame said that the dinner held at the Palais de l'Élysée had a profound meaning and promise for the relationship between the two countries.
The Head of State indicated that Rwanda and France have chosen to take a step forward and write a new history in their relationship. He said that this has begun to bear good fruit, showing that the changes in the relationship between the two countries are reflected in actions.
President Kagame stressed that commitment on both sides is important, but more importantly, restoring trust between Rwanda and France, which paves the way for a lasting partnership.
He said that today, France is a key partner of Rwanda in sectors including investment, technology, climate, and almost everywhere else that share common interests. This shows the breadth of the new partnership.
Kagame and Macron's talks and the dinner that followed show that the two countries are keen to continue building a relationship based on understanding and working together for mutual benefit, after years of bad relations between them.
