At 80, Sylvester Stallone, a famous movie actor, has released a new book called The Stapes, which tells the story of his personal life.
, Sylvester Stallone has written his highly anticipated first autobiography. Following a highly publicized interview with The New York Times on September 26, 2026 about his bulimia, he has now released the full details of his book.
American actor Sylvester Stallone has revealed that the pressure to maintain a healthy body shape that came with his film roles once affected his health, to the point that he suffered from bulimia, a disorder characterized by binge eating and excessive exercise.
Stallone revisited this in an interview with The New York Times, published on September 26, 2026. He said that in the 1980s, when he starred in popular films including Rocky III, he was very focused on achieving the physique of a giant.
"It became a constant in my mind, to the point where it had a serious impact on me. It even led to bulimia. I was down to 2.6% body fat," she said. "It was my armor." She felt that her body was her shield.
The athlete also said that he used muscle-enhancing drugs known as steroids. "Nobody does it without additives and drugs, period," he said. This pressure has been with him for a long time.
He explained that he began to feel comfortable with this pressure when he starred in Cop Land in 1997, where he played a burly Sheriff who didn't have to look like the tough guy people were used to.
Stallone, now 80, said his body has suffered from problems that have led to multiple surgeries, including nine back surgeries and two shoulder surgeries. "I've abused my body," he said.
New book The Steps:
Stallone has now officially released his book, *The Steps: A Memoir*, which was released on September 29, 2026, on the 50th anniversary of Rocky. It is a 304-page book published by William Morrow / HarperCollins. 0c9aaa24
The book chronicles his journey from his arrival in New York in 1969 to Rocky winning the Oscar for Best Picture in 1977. He chronicles his difficult upbringing - a difficult birth that left him with a facial deformity, being beaten by his father Frank Stallone Sr., and being raised in Devereux Manor psychiatric school where he was once imprisoned in the "Snake Pit". fd08
In a book that includes new information, he refutes a story that has been told for 50 years. He says that many people thought that Rocky was inspired by the Muhammad Ali vs. Chuck Wepner fight, but that is not the case. He says that the real inspiration is Rocky Marciano, a boxer who became a champion without losing a single fight in 49 fights. 28c0
He also wrote about his father who beat him. He said his father came to play the bell ringer in Rocky but he didn't speak it well, to the point where they fought on set. He said "It got really nasty. A really bad Italian drama". He said he wanted his father to love him at least a little. d411
The book also talks about his life of poverty before Rocky. He says he lived on unemployment benefits and ate raw eggs - which is why he included the raw egg scene in the first Rocky. "I wouldn't recommend this diet to anyone. But if you're young and poor, it will suffice". 0c9a
In the book, he also talks about the death of his son Sage in 2012, his gang, and how he didn't find true love until he was 70, thanks to his wife Jennifer Flavin and their children. He said he didn't include many of the bad experiences he had because he didn't want people to feel sorry for him - "I didn't want a pity party, but it was insane".
The Steps is now available worldwide for £25, and Stallone debuted it in a 50-minute interview at the 92nd Street Y with Tracy Smith. In the interview, he said that Hollywood is an "obsessive body-worship kind of thing" and that his book is a lesson to young people that the steps of life require more than just muscle. 24e5
