715 FARDC soldiers have completed a training course in jungle warfare provided by France. The training aimed to implement joint plans between the DRC and French armies.
Jungle warfare training is a program designed to further expand the knowledge acquired by soldiers during basic training. FARDC soldiers conducted jungle warfare training at a French military base, where they underwent seven months of advanced training.
The exercise was aimed at suppressing bandits in the capital of the Ituri province, and the DRC military announced that they had concluded the exercise, called "Commando Wewa".
FARDC soldiers have completed a seven-month intensive jungle warfare training course provided by France, and have demonstrated the skills they have gained from this training.
The DRC military, the FRDC, continues to fight against Rwanda and anti-government groups, including the AFC/M23, and we defend ourselves. They say that the training they received will help them confront and prevent these groups, which continue to fight.
This happened after the DRC army, the FRDC, announced that it had begun hunting down FDRL fighters who were left behind in the genocide in Rwanda in 1994.
The DRC government forces have begun a manhunt for the FDLR, a terrorist group operating in the forests of eastern Congo. The operation was launched on March 29, 2026, in the city of Kisangani, based on the Washington agreement between the DRC and Rwanda.
The Deputy Chief of Staff of the DRC Armed Forces, Lt Gen Nduru Jacques Ychaligonza, said that the army will carry out this operation in a controlled manner, and that there are international bodies monitoring the situation. FDLR fighters were asked to lay down their arms and cease hostilities.
Analysts point out that the implementation of this plan will require strong political will, close cooperation between all parties concerned, and a strong role for the international community in monitoring and suppor
ting this process.
