After thousands of Iranians protested since late December 2025, others living abroad began to protest, demanding a change in the country's regime.
They accuse Iran of persecuting them, the high cost of living problem, and killing them while they peacefully protest.Abroad, major protests erupted in various cities around the world on February 14, 2026, attended by thousands of Iranians living abroad.
They demonstrated in cities including Munich in Germany, Los Angeles in the United States, Toronto in Canada, Tel Aviv in Israel, Lisbon in Portugal, Sydney in Australia and London in the United Kingdom.
The protests followed an appeal by the son of the former Iranian monarch before the 1979 revolution, Reza Pahlavi, who called for something to be done.Reza Pahlavi, currently in exile in the United States, strongly condemned the killings and torture of protesters in Iran.
He said, "My first message is for the brave Iranians inside the country. Know that you are not alone, today the whole world is behind you in this fight."He continued to criticize the Iranian regime, stating that it should not continue to rule the country.
He said, "Your leadership is riddled with corruption, tyranny, and murder. Yet you represent the true culture of our country and modern life. The Iran of the future must be independent and show the world what a great country we are."
The BBC wrote that the scale of the protests was demonstrated by the number of participants in the city of Munich alone, as local police reported that around 250,000 people attended the event to hear Reza Pahlavi's message.
During the protests, Iranians loudly demanded that Reza Pahlavi return to power and solve the problems facing their country.
Protests in Iran began on December 28, 2025, with citizens complaining about the high cost of living caused by the sharp depreciation of the local currency, and later expanded to demand a change of government. The protests are said to have killed more than 16,000 people.
The United States has announced that it will use military force to help the Iranian people make the necessary changes, but has continued to move more slowly than President Donald Trump had said in early January 2026.
However, on February 13, 2026, Reuters reported that two US officials who did not want their names published told it that the US military was preparing for a war that could last weeks with Iran if President Donald Trump gave the order.
