US President Donald Trump said that Iran's military shot down a US Apache helicopter. He said the US would retaliate if it was confirmed. He made the remarks in a message on the Truth Social website on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
Trump wrote that he had been informed by the US military that late Monday night, Iran shot down one of the Apache helicopters. He said the aircraft was conducting security patrols in the Strait of Hormuz.
He went on to say that the US would respond to the attack no matter what. That raised concerns about continued tension between Washington and Tehran, as the two countries have long been at odds.
The US Department of Defense said that on Monday, June 7, 2026, their plane with two pilots on board crashed. But the pilots were not rescued alive, which was due to the involvement of underwater drones. It did not say that it was shot down by the Iranian regime.
