The leader of the AFC/M23 Alliance, Corneille Nangaa, pointed out that the statement from the office of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo accepting the ceasefire requested by the Angolan government is misleading as attacks by the country's military continue.

The leader of the AFC/M23 Alliance, Corneille Nangaa, pointed out that the statement from the office of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo accepting the ceasefire requested by the Angolan government is misleading as attacks by the country's military continue.

On February 13, 2026, this office announced that President Félix Tshisekedi "accepted" this ceasefire, which means that its terms include not expanding bases, not increasing the number of troops in areas where fighting is taking place, and stopping receiving foreign aid.

Today, Nangaa responded that the AFC/M23 is committed to respecting the ceasefire agreed in the Doha peace process, which is based on the principle of respecting political commitments and the willingness to achieve peace through dialogue.

Nangaa announced that the DRC government is trying to start new talks while others are ongoing, explaining that this could set back the progress made earlier, delaying solutions that address urgent issues.

He said, "Contrary to the declaration of a ceasefire, the Kinshasa government has demonstrated through monitored actions, the continuation of its war-making activities. Attacks targeting densely populated areas, the use of mercenaries and indiscriminate shootings affecting defenseless civilians, demonstrate its choice to continue the war, in violation of its commitments."

The leader continued, "For the AFC, Kinshasa's declaration of acceptance of the principle of truce is nothing more than a propaganda tool and an attempt to mislead, with the aim of deceiving the population and the international community, shirk responsibilities and concealing the fact that it is continuing its military program."

The Permanent Secretary of AFC/M23, Benjamin Mbonimpa, informed journalists in Goma that on the morning of February 13, the DRC government forces launched further attacks.

Kiongozi wa Muungano wa AFC/M23, Corneille Nangaa, alionyesha kuwa taarifa kutoka ofisi ya Rais wa Jamhuri ya Kidemokrasia ya Kongo inayokubali kusitisha mapigano kama ilivyotakiwa na serikali ya Angola ni ya kupotosha, kwani mashambulizi kutoka kwa jeshi la nchi hiyo yanaendelea. 

Mnamo Februari 13, 2026, ofisi hiyo ilitangaza kuwa Rais Félix Tshisekedi "alikubali" kusitisha mapigano, ambayo yanamaanisha kuwa masharti yake yanajumuisha kutoongeza vituo, kutoongeza idadi ya wanajeshi katika maeneo yanayofanyika mapigano, na kusitisha kupokea msaada wa kigeni.

Alisema, "Kinyume na tangazo la kusitishwa kwa mapigano, serikali ya Kinshasa imeonyesha kupitia vitendo vilivyofuatiliwe, kuendelea na shughuli zake za kivita. Mashambulizi yanayolenga maeneo yenye watu wengi, matumizi ya wapiganaji wa kigeni na risasi zisizo na kipimo zinazoathiri raia wasio na msaada, zinaonyesha chaguo lake la kuendelea na vita, kinyume na ahadi zake.

Kiongozi huyo aliendelea kusema, "Kwa AFC, tangazo la Kinshasa la kukubali kanuni ya silaha ni si kitu kingine zaidi ya zana ya propaganda na jaribio la kupotosha, likilenga kudanganya umma na jamii ya kimataifa, 

kukwepa wajibu na kuficha ukweli kwamba inaendelea na mpango wake wa kijeshi." Katibu Mkuu wa AFC/M23, Benjamin Mbonimpa, aliwaambia waandishi wa habari huko Goma kwamba asubuhi ya Februari 13, vikosi vya serikali ya Jamhuri ya Kongo vilizindua mashambulizi zaidi.
