Ibi byabereye mu Mudugudu wa Rukore, Akagari ka Rugunga, mu Murenge wa Mwogo, ku wa 20 Mata 2026.

Umunyamabanga Nshingwabikorwa w’Umurenge wa Mwogo, Mushenyi Innocent, yatangarije IGIHE ko ibyo byabaye mu rukerera rwo kuri uyu wa Mbere, ahagana saa Kumi n’Imwe za mu gitondo. Byaje kumenywa n’abaturanyi nyuma y’uko umugabo yabanje kwikingirana mu nzu ari kumwe n’imirambo.

Gitifu Mushenyi yavuze ko birakekwa ko yabatemye. Imibiri y’abishwe yahise ijyanwa gukorerwa isuzuma. Yakoresheje umuhoro, umwana amutema mu mutwe mu gihe nyina yamutemaguye umubiri wose.

Bugesera: Man kills wife and child with machete

What happened and where it happened

Security forces in Bugesera District have arrested a 35-year-old man from Mwogo Sector. He is accused of killing his 25-year-old wife and their one-month-old baby with a machete. This happened in Rukore Village, Rugunga Cell, Mwogo Sector, on April 20, 2026.

When it happened and how it became known

The Executive Secretary of Mwogo Sector, Mushenyi Innocent, told IGIHE that this happened in the early hours of Monday, around 5:00 a.m. It was discovered by neighbors after the man first locked himself in the house with the bodies.

Gitifu Mushenyi said it is suspected that he had cut them. The bodies of the victims were immediately taken for autopsy. He used a machete to cut the child's head while the mother cut her entire body.

The motive for the murder is unknown.

The man did not say anything that led to the killings. He told authorities that he had no problems with his wife and that he had not caused them any trouble.

Testimony from neighbors

Gitifu Mushenyi said that neighbors also confirmed that the family had no known conflicts. There was no sign of any quarrels or conflicts that were common in their home.

The investigation is ongoing.

The man has been handed over to security forces for further questioning. The aim is to determine what led him to kill his wife and their infant child.

Message to the citizens

Gitifu Mushenyi urged residents to live in peace and report any problems promptly. He reminded that taking someone's life does not solve problems, but rather puts the perpetrator in danger and ends up taking his own life.

The man has currently been detained at Nyamata RIB Station while investigations continue.

The bodies were taken for autopsy.

The bodies of the woman and child were taken to Nyamata Hospital for examination before burial.
