Rwanda's agricultural exports have earned the country over $893.1 million in 2025, a significant increase from the previous year. The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Dr. Ndabamenye Telesphore, attributed the growth to the government's efforts to promote agricultural production and exports.
Coffee exports have been a major contributor, earning the country over $116 million, a significant increase from $78.7 million in 2024. This is the highest earnings from coffee exports since 2023, when the country earned $115.9 million.
Tea exports, on the other hand, have declined, earning $110.9 million in 2025, compared to $114.9 million in 2024. Beer exports have also decreased, earning $7.4 million in 2025, compared to $8 million in 2024.
The Minister highlighted the government's efforts to diversify agricultural exports, including increasing production of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The country has also seen an increase in exports of these products, earning over $86 million in 2025, compared to $75.1 million in 2024.
The government has set a target to increase agricultural exports to $1.5 billion by 2025, as part of its National Strategy for Transformation (NST2). To achieve this, the government plans to increase the area under cultivation for export crops, improve productivity, and enhance value addition.
The Minister emphasized the importance of implementing the "food basket site" initiative, which aims to increase agricultural production and productivity. The initiative involves consolidating land, providing fertilizers and seeds, and promoting the use of technology.
The government has also made progress in the livestock sector, with increased production of milk, meat, and eggs. Milk production has increased to 1.15 million liters, while meat production has reached 219,523 tons.
Fish production has also increased, reaching 52,439 tons, while egg production has reached 29,855 tons. The Minister attributed the growth to the government's efforts to promote the livestock sector and improve productivity.
The government plans to continue implementing policies and programs to promote agricultural production and exports, with a focus on increasing productivity
